Looking for a cheap and cheerful ish holiday snapper, rather than having to lug the SLRs around the place.

User reviews are driving me nuts though, every camera you can find has at least a few people claiming it to be the worst thing on the face of the earth. I just want the best available point and click camera for as cheapish as possible (£150 ish ideal).

Anyone got any recommendations?

I don't know about 'best', but the PC Pro A-List is as good a place as any to start;
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/alist

Another couple of good ones;
http://www.testfreaks.com/digitalcameras/
http://www.trustedreviews.com/best_digital-cameras

So based on your 'cheap' criteria here's what I saw after a 1 minute glance at each site
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/digital- ... lpix-s9100
http://www.trustedreviews.com/Samsung-S ... era_review
http://www.testfreaks.com/digitalcamera ... us-220-hs/

So yeah, 3 different cameras, the only consistent thing I saw when looking for a compact (which I didn't get in the end) is there is no clear 'best' camera out there. The one thing I really was looking out for though was shot speed, by which I mean the delay between pressing the shutter switch and it actually taking the shot, compacts are notoriously slow at this and it drove me mad after a proper DLSR.

This is out of date but may help

Thanks Tonst. Yeah, that shot speed is definitely something that's been turning me off cameras if i've seen it listed as a major complaint.

Large might be pushing it, but I could probably make the rounds and have a play in a few places alright.
