Was over visiting my parents in Up=State NY over Easter and got dragged to NYC by the missus for shopping (God i hate that city!), but i did manage to get some snaps.

My mini tripod was mangled on day 1 so i had to take all of these hand-held or steadied on stuff which didn't help on a lot of them.

More on the Flickr!

Nice work mate. Is that first one a HDR jobby or just some filter?

Nice work fella, though a part of me always feel a touched robbed when photos have the arse post-processed out of them :E

I was looking through someone elses photos recently and people were congratulating him on great photos, what I saw though was more great post-processing than anything else. Just a personal bug bear ;)

I love the night shots and what I presume is Niagra Falls (the lighter blue one).

Yea i know what you mean but i had a load of these NYC and Niagara photos and without some form of filter fired over them they just look shit.

Totally 'meh'.

All the NYC ones look 10x better in Black and White or Sepia, and the Niagara Falls ones need something, otherwise again they're just a bit nothing.

That being said Night Shots seem to be my forte, having spent all my time learning on the SLR at night over here, that seems to be the stuff i'm good at atm :)

Maybe my other shots are shit cos i suck in the daylight :p

Only just saw the newer photos :P

Loving the last one in particular, looks like something from a film poster.

Just one question, what is the white haze around the edges of the buildings?

It's amazing what a difference selectively leaving the taxi yellow has made to that second last image, the photo is suddenly a lot more interesting. It cries "Athena poster" to me, don't take that as an insult :P

Might not be the case in this instance, but generally HDR images exhibit this phenomenonmenomenom.

Ta Tonst :)

The haze thing - i'm actually not sure tbh - i tink when i bumped the contrast in LR as well as the 'Recovery' slider it did something weird to produce the halo effect - i've got no real clue what it is.

I actrually really like the selective taxi ones - they really make the pictures scream NY as opposed to just 'here's some travel snaps of a city... yay...'

I'm using a Canon 450D - the one and only SLR camera i've ever owned - given the price of the bastards i'll likely be using this till it falls apart!
