The red lines are normal rocket flares over a 10 second exposure. We fire off a few expired flares every midwinter for a cheap fireworks show, and it's a nightmare to get everyone synchronised to fire them at the same time...

Absolute class m8

Is that top one HDR? Seems very vibrant.

I tried to do some HDRs of the Royal Armouries in Leeds a while back as theres a bit where you can get cool reflections off the canal and there is an adjacent building with loads of vibrantly coloured artwork on it... but I couldn't get the water to look right because there was too much movement between the different exposures and the reflections went too blurred.

No it's not HDR - i've played about with them a bit but never really come up with anything i liked. I used lightroom on that one to boost the vibrance a bit - i have a non-molested one on the photostream on Flickr which i actually prefer.

Lightroom is a fantastic bit of kit though and an essential imo.

I really like some of the cool effects that long esposures of water can make. I want to find me a half-decent looking waterfall around here that i can get a cool image from.

Stupid Q i know but what do i have to put into my sig to get that My Flickr link?

Here is the bbcode for mine:
Code: Select all
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/25155480@N04/]my [b][color=#0063dc]flick[/color][color=#FF0084]r[/color][/b][/url]

The number after 'flickr.com/photos' is your actual flickr user id.

You can find yours by going to your profile page on flickr and looking at some of the links... if you click on my siggy link and stick your pointer over the links next to where it says "larchypaws' photo stream" you'll see my id in the link.

There's a few around Wicklow that aren't bad. Glendalough, powerscourt, places like that.

Edit:
Glencar Falls in Leitrim is pretty good. Pity it's in feckin Leitrim really.

Fair play you do have an eye for a good shot and they are technically splendid too.

love the railyway track shot. had you fallen over and thought ooh ... opportunity ?

Either that or you're only 4 inches tall. or a very very small tripod.

i like the way every thing looks shiny black, like tar, giving it a different eerie feel to the actual materials they are.

did you fiddle with it (the picture) ?

I only have a mini extendable tripod - figured i could make do without spending a lot on a big one in most instances, and if occasionally forces you into cool angles like that one.

Only fiddling is sticking black and white and upping the contrast a bit. If you go to my Flickr stream in the siggeh there's a couple of different versions of it.

The second one down... the one with the metal chain loop thing and buildings in the background... I really like the depth of field in that. What settings/lens were you using? I remember trying to do something similar last summer but couldn't get the shot quite right.

Lens was whatever kit one came with the camera - check the flickr photostream for the settings, they're always left in i believe :)
