Not to steal Monie's glory or anything, but I've taken a few night shots down here that I'm happy with...

I really wish I'd bought a silly low fstop lens tho, something down to 1.4 instead of the 3.5 I was using.

This is just fantastic - Image

Who is the statue of, do you know? Mind you they are all good - great shots Monie, your photography is becoming quite something, i'd happily see prints of those hung on the study wall or somesuch. The civic building with the light "streaks" is magical.

Image

This is something straight out of sci-fi concept art. That single white beam soaring upwards into the ocean of stars and the depth of colour in the sky itself make it truly awe inspiring. Must be quite a sight when you're there in person.

If you want a print i'll happily fire you the full-res thing of any of them and you can photobox yourself one :)

The statue is of Jim Larkin - stands on O'Connell St in Dublin City Centre. He was big trade union guy, organised the 'Dublin Lockout' of 1913.

Had a play with selective colour, which i really like as an effect - ended up with this:

I took some night/dark shots in Iceland. The NL shots turned out pretty shit (nagging fiancée + cold + wind). Here are some anyway:

Why a low f-stop lens teeks? You'd still need a tripod surely?

Yeah, still need a tripod, but I'd be able to use a lower iso (instead of 1600 at 30 sec), so the image will have less noise and a quicker exposure resulting in less movement with the stars at the edge of the image.

Really stunning teeks, got am8 into astronomy & photography who would really love those sky shots that are just impossible near light pollution.
