Sure, Omen3 gives more detailed information about threat than the standard UI.

From where it's ranked on Curse I'm guessing it's still the one people use. I have it but as I rarely can group I don't actually know how to use it or whether it's any good :D

I also use Bayi's Extended Quest Log. Makes the quest log bigger and easier to navigate. Really nice mod.

Questhelper's probably the best of the bunch if I'm honest. Coupled with Cartographer it's foolproof (Follow the big arrow, do whatever the arrow says when you get there).

I still use MonkeyQuest as my quest log of choice. Still great after all these years.

Questhelper sounds a bit much to me tho. Why not just get a bot to play the game for you and be done with it?
Personally I quite like finding my own way through the game rather than being told EXACTLY where to go and what to do all the time. Where's the fun in that?

Tonster, to save hassle with updating mods, just get WowMatrix installed.

They have tons of mods supported and it will keep them all updated for you.

I had the same problem when I bought WotLK as I hadn't played since the Karazhan raiding days of BC so all my mods were way out, but once I got WowMatrix installed, it scanned through all my mods and updated all the ones it supported (which luckily most of the ones I used were), and any that weren't supported I easily found supported alternatives for.

Get it, and stop the endless tedium of manually keeping all your mods updated!

How many alts have you levelled up? I've done quite a few at this stage and I've explored every area in the game so I don't need or want to have to find my way around again because I can't remember where exactly I found every single quest the first time.

The first (and probably second and third) time I levelled up I took my time, read all the quest text and found my way around by actually exploring. I'm not gonna lose anything by having a mod remind me where to go. I still have to actually go there and do the quest.

Aye fair enough for levelling alts, I was thinking of the characters I'm playing through the new content in Northrend now, I'd rather discover it all myself on those, but on alts I can see what you mean.
I haven't levelled many alts myself.

Aha WoWMatrix, that cryptic message I got from Cacker on Steam now makes sense (he was offline again by the time I saw it).

I use the Curse updater to keep my mods up to date, though it doesn't offer alternatives if something is discontinued. I'm very picky about my mods so don't mind the occasional trawl through Curse anyway (quite enjoy it tbh :P ).

Another vote here as well for 'QuestHelper/Cartographer for alts only'. Damn right it spoils things when exploring an area for the first time, but a god send when levelling the umpteenth alt.

I would just like to say how feckin' awesome prot pallies are, can't believe I levelled my pally to 70 with a retri spec, prot is soooo much better.

DON'T USE WOWMATRIX

someone's found trojans and keyloggers in one (or more) of the versions
use the curse client

Questhelper is bloody great, particularly if you're redoing a load of levels and just want to do it efficiently and economically. The thing is a big resource hog so if you have a flaky pc don't bother

I just took a bit of time to find an Auctioneer replacement and have found AuctionLite. It adds 2 things to your tooltips - vendor prices and average AH price the item, not like the bloated raft of info you get with Auctioneer, it's just 2 lines.

Also adds 2 tabs to the AH interface, Buy and Sell. Drag something to Sell and it lists all the existing auctions so you can easily judge your pricing, it then sets the item price for you at X% below market, though TBH I always adjust that sort of thing. Also lets you sell mutliple stacks at once.

That's basically everything I want in an AH mod, and it's very lightweight. You will still need to 'scan' the AH periodically to keep your tooltip facts up to date.

Got any source for that other than 'someone'?
I have actually stopped using it and am using the Curse client instead now, but would be interested to know where your info has come from as I've done a bit of googling too and all the posts I've seen that mention keyloggers or viruses just seem like speculation to me. Also it's possible that it could be rumours started by irate addon developers due to the way WowMatrix handles it's addon version control and distribution (ie privately hosted server where developers can't access the files or control version etc).

I read it on wowinsider... they do a UI of the week and someone said I use addons x, y & z and use Wowmatrix to update them

at which point about 20 people posted saying "don't"

Aye, but there's just as many people on there saying that the keylogger claims are bollocks. Not defending WowMatrix here, just trying to see both sides of the coin.
As far as I can see, the only way for it to log your info would be if you used the 'Launch WoW' button within the WowMatrix GUI. I never did that and never would with any program because that would be just asking for trouble.

Still, having said that, I have removed it from my PC and am using Curse client instead, just to be on the safe side. I'm not convinced there is anything dodgy about WowMatrix (aside from it's mod developer angering way of managing the mods, and the gold seller adverts (which you don't have to click)), but I'm not taking any chances. Hell, Curse client could be riddled with keyloggers (and so could any of the millions of addons we all use) for all we know, just because it's from a more reputable source doesn't necessarily mean it's any more safe to use.

An add-on which is more addictive than the game itself :E

Pops up during flights or whenever you want it (e.g. waiting for a group/raid to get its arse into gear).

I like wowmatrix, but I've always felt the heebie jeebies from running an exe just to update my add-ons.
so I'll have a look at the curse tool I guess.

Another little add-on for you, QuickMark. Allows for high speed marking of targets in groups/raids with skull, cross, box etc for targeting priorities. Just miles quicker than the the default method, good for tanks and group/raid leaders.

I liked wowmatrix and used it up to yesterday when this happened

http://www.wowace.com/announcements/cur ... p-protect/

I went back to Curse client last night and that worked fine apart from it telling me that wowmatrix fails and fucks up folders so I'd have to install 3 of my mods again :)

Patch wise every mod i used worked on the PTR and every 3.1 mod i updated last night worked on 3.0, can't see much fuss today with them.
