Having watched the 19 minute gameplay video yesterday evening, I think it would be more appropriate to say I was salivating like a madman.

Hehe, I especially liked the way the Barb was obliterating enemies by jumping around. Looked like an advanced form of Leap Attack. Graphics were of course much crisper than in D2. The Fire Bombs of the Witchdoctor looked very nice.

Doubt we will see D3 before 2010, though :(

I can't wait... although 2010 sounds plausible given they'll wait for WoW to come to exhaustion first
That's The REVEREND Dr. Kazza to you.

Wow's still trending up on it's subscription user-base, adn given they're just about to localise into Russian, I don't think it'll trend down anytime soon, unless Warhammer Online is a much bigger deal than most people believe it will be.

I truly can see WoW about in another 4-5 years, it's bigger by an order of magnitude than EQ ever was, and that's been going for 7 years. The whole subscription model reduces the need for yearly/frequent updates so they only need to update when they are at risk of being overtaken by others.

What I'd expect from a d3 game in tems of business model, is some form of pay to play on battle.net . Probably reasonably similar to Hellgate London, with free game modes, but some game modes only accessible to paying members and more storage and item and content updates accessible only to subscribers. Dungeon Runners have actually made it clear that subscribers will have increased drop % on good items! I'm trying to say "pay to play" as there's nothing that makes me think either that this will be an mmorpg (think Guild Wars, with towns liek chat channels, but completely instanced play zones), or that Blizzard (and there new owners!) would ever have any reason to update a franchise so popular with a gameplay model that doesn't support constant income streams.

There's an interesting comment from Blizzard recently (originally posted on gamasutra I think, but I saw it here - http://www.keenandgraev.com/?p=1105 ) where they discussed the chance that WoW could originally have been free to play. As Keen puts it, it would clearly have ended up a very different game - but my read is more, why would they use any key franchise in a non-pay to play manner?

Oh and yes, I will be digging out my D2 install discs tonight to install on my work laptop.

Kaz - I'll be on the West Coast of the USA from tomorrow night for 3 1/2 of the next 5 weeks or so, if you fancy digging your discs out and having a retro game, give me a shout! I know time-zone wise, Us Pac is 8 hours gap to HK, the same as UK is to HK, but I'll be working silly hours anyway, so maybe we can get together! More than likely, you;ll all be back in the UK, just to add to the irony!
