I've been playing starbound. It starts off a lot like terraria but the scale of the end game is theoretically much bigger
It's in beta.
It's on steam.
I have been finding it fun.

Took me a while to get into simply because the first hour of these games is always a bit of a chore, I'm looking froward to some of the NPC and ship stuff they are going to add but that won't be for ages. My only real gripe is they kept saying "It's pretty much done" then launched the beta and it still feels like a lot of the almost done promise is way off, ah well its still fun.

The server is still a bit incomplete. The game's fun enough, but I don't like some of the nasty monsters in the beta sector. I never played Terraria despite owning it, but it's very minecraftey.

The character/sever wipes are making me a little edgy about playing at the moment as cba playing for x hours then losing everything, hopefully this was the last one.

I doubt that'll be the last one, but they added quite a bit of new stuff in the latest version too.

I'm hoping they add more dynamic stuff rather than just having the terraria thing of 'craft x to summon y' which is what they have right now

Yeah the tier system is a little...linear, although I must admit I find building my own little kingdom more fun, which would be more fun if hey get the dynamic NPC's and shit in there, I'm not that fussed about a story. I might wait till the next reset as its going to be a complete character/server/ship reset and then give it another whirl. Might even get a server up although again unless its with people you know you pretty much have zero chance of people finding you, I guess as an MMO it would have been fun but would just be grief central. One massive plus side is Tiy seems to really hate micro transactions so we hopefully won't see them anywhere which I can imagine if someone like EA got their hands on it you would pay by block.
