Hello photography Guru's! I come before thee with my cap in my hand asking for pearls of wisdom cascading from your genius with regards to the purchase of a new camera. I have looked at a couple of review sights but they very quickly get very geeky and start to use words that make my eyes bleed so im hoping that you guys can narrow the field down for me before i go away and waste time/money. Anyway here's what im looking for.

- Budget is between £100 to £150 (yes i know its not a lot)

-Im not looking at proffesional work and I won't be blowing up pictures for posters, however picture quality is very important to me, especialy in low light conditions. Basicaly i want my pictures to look nice, fresh and crisp.

- I wouldn't mind an SLR or a compact but I would prefer if it was a small SLR. No shiny aluminium compacts please if it has to be compact then a matt black one.

-There is a good chance its going to be used in a military enviroment so it would be ideal if it was fairly robust/splashproof etc.......I know this is a bit of specialist thing but I appreciate any suggestions.

Many many thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah, I don't really know much about stuff in that price range... apart from a general recommendation for Canon. The Powershots I've seen have all seemed good to me

I HAVE IT!!!!

No really, Mac User did a test today with a whole load of new SLRs, DSLRs and Compacts....

The 'Pentax Optio A40' beat them all and it's a titchy compact. Buy Mac User, or if you want, give/PM me your e-mail addy and I'll scan up the review and send it to you Az....

It's about £160 I think

(I like my cameras)

Its lovely, bit pricey though. Is there an 8 or 10 MP version thats a beat cheaper? I shall investigate. Thanks again DoG.
